The Bike Workshop is a small and welcoming bike repair and rental service catering for the Moss Side, Rusholme, Fallowfield, Hulme and Whalley Range communities in Manchester.

We offer traditional bike shop services, sell refurbished bikes, train bike mechanics, run bike maintenance workshops and provide bike rentals.

We can supply a wide range of parts for most bikes, often at prices much lower than high street bike shops. If you’re looking for parts for your bike, then come and talk to us.

There’s no need to book in advance, but you can do so using the links below if you want to book your bike in when it suits you. If you don’t want to book, you can just drop your bike into us so that we can look at it. If you need to, you can even borrow one of our courtesy bikes to make sure that you can carry on with what you wanted to do that day.

Throughout the Spring and Summer months we visit offices and businesses in and around Manchester with our mobile workshop where we service bikes outside your workplace.

We are based at the Boiler House on Wilcock Street in Moss Side, which is just off Alexandra Road and about 3 minutes from Hulme High Street. We are close to Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Manchester University (UoM)

We are a social enterprise supported by Manchester Cycling Academy. Much of our work is discounted to make it accessible to the local community. If you have an interest in bikes and have some spare time to help us each week we would love to hear from you.

Parts: If we discover that any parts need replacing during your service you will be consulted first prior to any work commencing. 

Part Fitting: Please bring your bike into us and we will provide a written quotation for you. 

As we are a small community social enterprise we are not VAT registered which means we are cheaper than many bike shops.

Hourly Rate: Our rates are very reasonable and we charge an hourly rate of £40 per hour, with 20 minutes as a minimum time and a minimum charge of £15.

From March 2025 we are offering a limited number of FREE repairs at our workshop in Moss Side.

These will take place at our Bike Repair Cafe, which takes place on the last Saturday of every month between 1.00 and 4.00.

The free service is limited to minor repairs and consumables such as brake blocks, cables and inner tubes. Where possible we will use recycled parts but for an extra charge you can purchase brand new parts which will be fitted free of charge* as part of the offer.

There is no need to book. All you have to do is to come to the Boiler House between 1.00 and 4.00. You may have to wait but we will try to get your repair done within the day.

• We reserve the right to restrict fitting of parts to a reasonable number. If you opt to have new parts then your bike may not be ready on the same day.
